Susan Elliott
Susan Elliott lives in the picturesque town of Litchfield, and was a long-time resident of Washington, Connecticut. The scenic landscapes of these charming towns are also the subjects of her many paintings. She embarked on her art journey about 40 years ago by developing her drawing and painting skills through classes at the Washington Art Association, Wooster Community Art Center, in group painting classes with local artists ‘en plein air’, and more recently through Tucson Art Academy.
Susan’s passion is influenced by the New England area she grew up in, Early American art, leading to decorating homes with wall stenciling, canvas floorcloths and fireboards. Developing her techniques and exploring new themes, she expanded to landscape and skyscape paintings as well as commissioned paintings of homes and requested subjects. Acrylics are her medium of choice. In her artistic practice, she draws her inspiration from the surrounding nature and conveys the beauty of that subject to the viewer, painting on location or in studio. She currently enjoys painting en plein air where being out in nature contributes to her painting experience.
Her artworks have been exhibited at the Washington Art Association, Mattatuck Museum CT Vision, Litchfield Arts Festival, The Wish House in West Cornwall, Marty’s Café, Flanders Nature Center, Steep Rock Association Preserves 100th anniversary juried exhibit, Plein Air Litchfield 2025, among others.
While her focus lies in capturing new muses in nature and translating them onto her canvas, Sue remains available for commissioned work upon request. She takes great pleasure in personalizing custom pieces for her clients. Her commissioned pieces include scenes of specific subjects at the client’s request, paintings of family homes and landscapes.
“When I create a piece of artwork that brings joy and happiness to someone, that is a genuine achievement to me.”
